Summary: How much longer are we going to have to hear about police shooting innocent people? Deborah Danner was a 66-year-old woman who lived in the Bronx. She lived everyday with schizophrenia. This last Tuesday, the NYPD received a phone call from one of her neighbors, who claimed she had been acting erratically. Police showed up to her apartment to investigate. While there, she swung a baseball bat at one of the officers. However, instead of tasing or handcuffing or getting control of her, officer Hugh Barry shot and killed her. Barry was then stripped of his badge and dismissed from the police force. Now, Ms. Danner sadly joins the rest of the hundreds of people who have had their lives taken away by police in this year alone.
Analysis: This was written October 20, 2016 by the New York Times. I didn't know about this incident, but after reading about this, I ended up seeing it on Instagram soon after. The intended audience for this article I believe was everyone. Everyone needs to be informed about the continuing police brutality we see in the U.S,, I mean this is about the 900th death in this year alone that is linked to police brutality. A year is 365 and we've nearly seen 1000 deaths from police which is just dreadful to think about! I think the main idea, after all these articles, is that we as people in this country need to do something major about the way situations are handled by the police. We can't just keep letting these people turn into hashtags that trend on Twitter for 2 to 3 days.
Synthesis: This is starting to remind me of the Holocaust and all the innocent Jews that were being killed. I know its absolutely crazy to relate something to the Holocaust because that was such a major sad event in history. b\But with as many deaths as we've seen, and the many we are probably still going to see. it's starting to feel as if it's going down that path. Overall, I just hope something can be done about all of this soon because I don't was this to lead to a second Holocaust or another form of mass genocide or anything else.

Rest in peace Deborah Danner.
This is not only a fight for police brutality but also mental health. She obviously was sick and couldn't control herself. The police should have handled the situation without ending her life. This is disgusting to hear about.
ReplyDeleteThis is so sad. This woman probably passed away confused instead of receiving the help she needed.
ReplyDeleteThis is so tragic. Although they were acting in self defense, it was completely unnecessary for them to kill her. She clearly could not help her actions.
