Kate Pinkerton - US aid worker abducted in Niger
Summary - A US aid worker was abducted by an armed group Friday night. He was working in the West African country of Niger. He was put into a vehicle, after being forced to strip to avoid tracking, and driven to the neighboring country of Mali. No terrorist group has taken responsibility for the abduction yet. The man had been working in the area for 29 years for the aid group JEMED. When his house was invaded the group also killed his body guard and a police man. The abduction is said to be connected to terrorist groups attacking countries that support the intervention of terrorist groups. Measures are being taken to locate the worker.
Analysis - Because of recent events throughout the world there is a lot of fear of terrorist groups. This abduction is sad and frightening, but also expected because many terrorist groups have ben attacking countries that are trying to fight against them. Groups like Al Qaeda have been threatening to kidnapping Europeans and Americans who are in the area. Terrorist threats have grown as these groups have started to recruit young people in many countries, even the US. It is because of events like this that many countries are trying to fight these groups.
