This article outlines the discussion or lack thereof in the 2016 election about climate change and global warming. The sides of each nominee on the issue is clear in that Trump has declared that global warming is a "hoax" and Hilary has made some moves to discuss her plan to improve our environment. Trump plans to promote the use of fossil fuels and to eliminate most of Obama's acts that will help clean up our environment. The current President Obama has made great improvement's on the nation's environmental policies and a loss of these policies would be tragic.Though we know their positions this article observes that there has been little discussion about the important issue. It also states that in the brief times that the issue has been brought up neither candidate has had a substantial response.
This article was written by Tatiana Schlossberg and John Schwartz from the New York Times to share the issue of the 2016 election ignoring climate change. In my opinion, global warming should be one of the prominent discussion topics of the election because of its ability to effect the future fate of our nation. It is concerning to me that there's been almost zero debate about the issue from the nominees and even more concerning is Trump's claims that this very real problem does not exist. If action against climate change is not taken in the coming years it will turn into a completely irreversible flaw in our world. Though a more popular view when the issue of climate change was first discussed, the notion that climate change is not a real thing is a completely false and out dated belief. Science can now prove and predict the horrible effects climate change could have in the world if action is not taken soon. Trump's unwillingness to accept the reality of the situation is comparable to Andrew Jackson's attitude when he passed the Indian Removal Act even after the Supreme Court and other government officials had decided that an act like that would be unconstitutional and wrong.

I agree that losing the new policies that Obama has put in place would be an overall loss for our country and although global warming is a very controversial subject in our country today, precautions and procedures still need to be set fourth so, whether it is a "hoax" or not, something is being done about it.
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely something that should be at the forefront of this election. They've spent more time accusing each other of being bad and wrong than they have actually discussing issues at this point.
