The tragedies that heroin has left in its path are unfathomable, but this video shows the true heartbreak many families of heroin users are left to deal with. Over a week ago, father Brenden Clark sat his son and a few others down for a conversation no one will soon forget. In the video Clark is shown telling his son that "Mommy died last night." His 8 year old son, Cameron, is shocked. "What do you mean? My Mom? How?" His father simply replies, "From drugs." Thats all you can really say in a situation like that. The family instantly breaks into tears and embraces each other, holding on to the ones left behind. Clark posted this video on Facebook and within a week got over 34 million views. The comments range from those accusing Clark of exploiting the boy to other thanking him for showing the world what drug abuse does to families. Clark says he got permission from his son before posting the video, and the video wasn't scripted. It would take a skilled actor to pull of such an emotional performance in one take.
This article/video shows how terrible drug abuse is and how it can scar families for life. Drug abuse isn't often talked about in the media, especially with the 2016 election less then a month away and all the recent sex scandals Donald Trump has been linked to. Even without the distraction of election season, we as a population refrain from posting gruesome tales of drug addiction because it's something not many people talk about openly and it's also an unpleasant topic in general. Many parents dread having that conversation with their children about drugs. But this truly is something America needs to face head on and tackle while we still have the upper hand.

I completely agree. Drug abuse needs to have more attention so everyone as a community can take action. To those who were upset about the father telling the child and posting it are unreasonable. Unfortunately thats the reality of the child's life.
ReplyDeleteIt's touching to hear a story like this and I think we all greatly sympathize with the family. Drug abuse deeply affects so many people and I think if it were more openly discussed we could arrive at more solutions and make peace with tragedy.
ReplyDeleteI find it odd that he recorded, but now that I think deeper about it, he showed that drug abuse is real and how it affects loved ones. Some people tend to ignore or say it's not that serious, but it is.
