Junko Tabei, first woman to climb Mount Everest, dead at 77
Summary: The first woman to ever climb Mount Everest and to scale the seven summits died recently at the age of 77. She achieved her goal of reaching the top of the world's highest peak at the age of 35 in the year 1975. Her last climb was in 2011 with a group of high school students.
Analysis: I like seeing significant women such as Tabei in the news being acknowledged for their accomplishments. Oftentimes in history women are overlooked for the steps they make. This woman is truly a role model and I think she led a full life. This can be connected to the first two men to ever reach the top of Everest, Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary, who hiked Everest only 22 years before Tabei.
It's inspiring to see women like this come and go in history. Thank goodness her accomplishments were acknowledged with at least a headline in the news; you know thousands of women who've achieved things just as monumental as this live and die unrecognized. -Olivia Moretta
ReplyDeleteThis is so cool! My next door neighbor climbed Mt. Everest, and he always tells me about how hard but amazing his experience was. I am happy to hear that although she passed on, she reached her goal in life.
ReplyDeleteImagine how cool it would be to be able to say you were the first woman to climb Mount Everest. I hope she had a good life.
