Abbey Winiger- Mars Lander Lost During Descent

SUMMARY- The European Space agency has confirmed that the Mars rover has been lost that was expected to land on Wednesday. During a press conference on Thursday, scientists said that Schiaparelli stopped transmitting around 50 seconds before the expected landing.
The agency suspects something went wrong when the parachute was jettisoned: "The ejection itself appears to have occurred earlier than expected, but analysis is not yet complete," it said in a statement. The probe was equipped with nine thrusters that were due to be activated for the last 30 seconds to help cushion the landing. But while they were confirmed to have been briefly activated, the agency believes they switched off sooner than expected. Scientists with ESA were anxiously waiting for news from Schiaparelli yesterday.
After a high-speed, fiery descent through the Martian atmosphere, scientists at mission control in Darmstadt, Germany, did not get a signal back from the 1,272 pound (577 kilogram) probe.

ANALYSIS/SUMMARY- Before reading this article I had not heard of this Mars Landing device. This is shocking because I feel like a shocking event like this would be more widely broadcasted. This is relevant to today because its shows how there is still so much learning we have to do about the unknown world. The writer of this article is Bianca Britton and her point of view sides with that the Mars rover malfunctioned, and does not blame the scientists behind this. This article reminds me of the Moon landing because it shows how much is unknown about outer space, and how we are resin the limits of the unknown.

    1. I completely agree with this article and your thoughts. I think the USA has a whole lot more to learn and I think it's horrible that NASA was closed to the public. The people should know about advacements in our country and not be oblivious to them...

    2. I agree with the article. I think we still have to learn and understand so many other important things that we haven't discovered yet.
