Kate Pinkerton New York explosion

Summary- On Saturday near 8:30 PM there was an explosion in the Chelsea area of New York City. 29 people were injured, one critically, and there were no deaths. Police found later in the area what seemed to be a bomb in a pressure cooker, similar to the one used in the Boston Marathon bombing. The mayor of the area says that it was an intentional act. Officials say that it might be terrorist affiliated but no certain group has claimed responsibility. The area of Manhattan has restaurants and apartments, some of which were damaged due to breaking glass because of the explosion.

Analysis- Because of this occurring in New York people there is probably more fear in the area of terrorist acts because of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Occurrences like these contribute to the xenophobic mentality in the United States. The recent increase of events of mass violence are very concerning. An effect of this is that security is increasing in New York. The bombing can be synthesized to any terrorist attack in the United States, with all having the effect of increasing fear of immigrants and creating security measures such as airport security (TSA) after the 9/11 attacks.
