FBI annual crime report shows rise in violent crime by Caitlin King

According to FBI data, violent crimes are up 3.9% and murder is up a whooping 10.8%. The trend is most prominent in big cities such as Chicago, Baltimore, and Washington. Surprisingly enough, New York and Los angeles haven't experienced these current rates. The FBI is taking an interest in these higher crime rates, as is the Attorney General. These rates are expected to play quite a role in the presidential election.

I found this article interesting because I think throughout the year we all thought that there seemed to be more crime happening in the states than usual, and here are the statistics to prove it! This article was written by Evan Perez and Tom Kludt on September 26th, 2016. This article is current and describes the crime rates according to the FBI and how they might effect upcoming events. I think these statistics also call for a change. If we keep up at our current pace, what will the murder rates be next year? How many police shootings will we've had by then? Something drastic needs to happen in order to correct our downward spiral into mutiny.

  1. I agree with you that something needs to change in order for these statistics to go down. It's definitely not good that our country's crime rates are going up even if it's significantly focused on a couple of cities.
