Suspect charged in Washington mall shooting

Earlier this week, a deadly shooting occurred at a Washington mall, killing 5 people. There was only one suspect who has now been taken in, charged with 5 counts of murder. The biggest concern for officers is if this was a terrorist attack or not. The suspect was taken into custody after a 24 hour manhunt. When captured, the suspect "did not run" and "complied to the arrest" which concerned officials even more. The motive of the shooting is stated to still be unclear as the investigation is still in its preliminary stages. However, while the FBI states that they can't yet leave out terrorism, there was no link to the crime at the time to any aspect of terrorism. The suspect was an immigrant from Turkey and a legal permanent resident of the United States so an investigation is still being conducted. Authorities say that the shooter entered the mall and opened fire with his rifle Friday night. Investigations are still underway regarding the incident.

The timing of the article, amidst the constant light shed on terrorism throughout the world, suggests that it is trying to not only showcase a current event, but to show a possible terrorism case. Based upon my prior knowledge of terrorism, I don't believe this was an act of terrorism but could not be completely sure. This article was written for viewers who are interested in current events happening throughout the U.S. After reading this article, it leaves a negative impression on the lives lost, but a positive impression on the culprit being brought to justice. This article is important because it shows happenings going on in the United States and also possible acts of terrorism. This can be related to the attack of 9/11 and the terrorist attacks on Paris because it shows how one act of terrorism can cause paranoia throughout a country and shows what ISIS is capable of and how this shooting may be related.
