A day in the life of the drug death capital - Caitlin King

In a small town of 49,000, an estimated 12,000 are addicted. The drug wave effects everyone from children, grandparents, whites, blacks, mechanics, and lawyers. Today, 28 people will overdose in a 5 hour period. Hospitals are filled with drug addicts, nurserys are filled with babies born addicted. The small town has even opened a facility for heroin addicted babies to aid in their withdrawal and help put them in a safer place. A new wave of heroin is said to be the cause of it all. This heroin is mixed with an extremely potent elephant tranquilizer, hundreds of times more potent and deadly that morphine. It will take a lot more than a police crackdown to end this devastation.

This article was written today at 5:45 PM. It talks about how heroin doesn't discriminate, and it's message is to say how terrible this epidemic has effected such a small town. In America we've had a long history of drug abuse, including the drug epidemic that ravaged Plano, Texas back in the 90's leaving many dead and devastating other communities such as Deep Ellum. But this is really a new low, and this small West Virginia town will need lots of help to make it out of the grave heroin has dug for it.

  4. The worst part about all of this it's definitely all of the children who are affected. Lots of people are addicted to heroin, this needs to end.

  5. I can't believe that a great part of the community contributes and uses heroin to such extremes that they even have a facility for addicted babies.

  7. It is almost unfathomable how many people in one town can suffer from this disease. Addiction is an issue that needs to be more seriously addressed in our society. As this article proves, it's effects can be monumental.

  8. The worst part is the children affected by their parents actions. Parents need to be responsible and not ruin an innocent child's life. We should provide appropriate sex education so we don't have as many unwanted pregnancies.
