The link below depicts the events of the night of September 25, 2016. A man, who still has yet to be found, went on a spree of shootings and carjackings in and around Cedar Hill, Texas. The man managed to kill two people and injure one person. Many others were shot at but, luckily were not hit.
As with any shooting, the issue of our second amendment right becomes the main topic of discussion. Our second amendment right states that,"...the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." As of late gun laws have become more strict but some are still completely against it.
Personally, with public shootings getting closer to home with cases such as the one in Downtown, Dallas and now this one, it is hard for me to continue to support the ease of buying a gun these days. Although it must have been said thousands of times, I believe that we must find a way to regulate the selling of guns, without making them unattainable.

Gun control is a complex and important issue. On one side, we have these horrific instances where a gun in the wrong hands does terrible damage. However, others argue that people who are armed will be able to protect themselves against the attacks. I think we need to find middle ground. Better background checks and not allowing people on the no fly list to purchase guns, as well as mental health screenings will be able to prevent some bad people attaining guns, but innocent and honest people will still be able to purchase guns so that they can protect themselves and exercise their 2nd amendment right.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, the second amendment has been quoted out of context too many times. There are different ways to interpret it but if you read it plainly it seems to only give the right to bear arms to militias, not just the common people. It shouldn't be used as the main evidence for the pro gun argument.
ReplyDeleteI just think that although yes a lot of the shootings are the persons fault and not the guns, as many people say, but it is the lenient gun control polices that are allowing more and more of these shootings to occur. I really think stricter laws should be enforced when buying fire power.
