More than half of the United States' forests are privately owned plots, may of which are 1000 acres or less. Trees are the number one way for carbon to be removed from the atmosphere. Many of those small forest owners turn to logging for a source of income, but there is a way that is much better for the environment, gaining popularity. Its is where the forest is evaluated for its potential carbon intake and that is turned into credits. Those credits are then sold to large companies to offset their carbon footprint.
This article was published on September 26, 2016 by Erica Goode. Goode seemed to be very supportive of this relatively new system. It allows both the forest owner and the large buisnesses to benefit. Prior to reading this article, I had no idea it was possible to do this, although I did know about how important trees are to our planet. I believe that the purpose of this article was to inform more people about this because not a lot of people know about it yet. This event can relate back to the Industrial revolution because that was the main start of significant carbon emissions.
This is a system that i've never heard about and would like to go more into depth research long term effects, etc.
ReplyDeleteThis is an awesome solution, and can really help the earth . If you get paid to have a forest more people will want to have a forest and then there will be more trees; cleaner earth.
ReplyDeleteThat's an interesting way to solve both the issue of pollution and the need of trees for oxygen to breath.
ReplyDeleteThis is really cool. I didn't know anything like this existed, and I'm happy that efforts are being made to help the environment.
