Most of us may be scared at the idea to let an experimental vaccine into our bodies, but a few soldiers, including Bliss have been doing this for many years. For the past 8 years, Bliss has tested vaccines such as Yellow Fever, Ebola, Meningococcal Disease and just recently started testing Zika. Although you do get paid for doing this ($20 an hour), people enjoy doing this act for a good cause. As Bliss states "I really believe in medical research....i'm just glad i can contribute to medical history." Testing on people shows the best possible results.
This article was posted on September 22, showing us that Zika has just been added to this vaccine soldier testing process. I think this article was created to let us know that these generous people do exist and there is only 80 of them, so maybe this can make more people want to help. I believe that as long as people are willing to do this helpful act, then it is a good idea, but i definitely understand being scared to be tested for these awful diseases. Prior to reading this article, i have never heard of the vaccine soldiers. This can relate to history because in 1798, when smallpox arrived, they were eager to find a vaccine to help, and now they are also trying to find vaccines to help, just with the help of humans.

Awesome to know that the people who are helping with experimental vaccines are not doing it out of force, but because they sincerely want to help. I agree that this article proves these people are generous and hopefully more will want to help!
ReplyDeleteIt's great that people are willing to test these vaccines to help scientists find a cure. This could be a great way to start curing world diseases.
ReplyDeleteI think it's awesome that people are willing to help out with vaccines and might be rewarded if they come out positive in outcome. - Skyler Tepedino
