Stephanie Toribio-the Minnesota Attacker

On Saturday, 20 year old Dahir Adan went to the Crossroads Center Mall to buy a new iPhone, but instead stabbed ten people, none of which were seriously injured. Adan is now being labeled as a terrorist for supposedly mentioning Allah and asking a victim if they were Muslim, although a family friend states that Adan wasn't religious, but also not atheist. Law enforcement officials are wondering if Adan was associated with a terrorist organization or if he was "self-radicalized". His friends are puzzled, knowing their friend wasn't capable of this sort of thing, saying that he was "a normal American kid" and that he "was such a sweet, humble guy". No connections have been made to the incidents in New York or Jersey. Adan was shot down by off duty police officer Jason Falconer.

Alright, so according to a family friend, Adan was born in Kenya but immigrated to the US with his dad as a toddler, growing up in St. Cloud. I do wonder what made him go rogue and stab ten people, he was an excellent student and worked as a security officer while taking classes at a local college. It is an unsettling event, seeing as how afraid people are to go shopping now, scared that any one of them could also possibly be associated with a terrorist group. But even though no one believed Adan to be capable of such an act, everyone keeps secrets, and after all of the news stories related to hate crimes, attacks, and shootings done by people previously deemed incapable, I can't say I'm surprised.

  1. I doubt this had to do with religion. Some seemingly normal people can be mentally unstable without anyone ever knowing until they act out. I find it insensitive to associate a nonreligious kid with "radical Islam."
