Matthew Zapata -Trump defends racial profiling in wake of bombs

On September 19th 2016, CNN released an article that talked about Donald Trump and his support on racial profiling. Donald Trump believes that racial profiling is the leap into ending terror attacks/ violence in America. He uses Israel as an example of racial profiling done right as he says that "have done an unbelievable job".
The author of this article is Theodore Schleifer who is a CNN politics reporter. I really didn't see any form of opinion from the author in this article which was good because it gave me the ability to form my own opinion on the situation at hand. The meaning of this article can be effected because of the time it was released. The bombings in New York and New Jersey have just happened which most likely caused Trump to speak out on his opinions on racial profiling, which I disagree with. Trump thinks that because certain events involve people, majority being from a specific race, we should question all of the people in that specific race because in his mind if a couple islamic people commit acts of terror ALL islamic people must have the same mindset as them. Before reading this article I knew very little on the bombing that occurred and still only know a sliver of what actually happened. I would like to read more into the actual bombing incident because this article just factually gave me Trumps response to the bombings. This article is relevant in our lives today because of the racial segregational issues and mass terror attacks that are obviously still present in our world today. These bombings can relate to the tragedy of 9/11 or really any act of terror that unfortunately happens way to often in our world today.

  1. I never feel like racial profiling can be a viable solution to any problem. However many terrorists of Middle Eastern descent there are, there are just as many, if not more, terrorists of European descent. The same thing goes for racial profiling of African Americans. Saying that it helps keep citizens safe is a thinly veiled excuse to validate institutional racism.

  2. Hey Matthew! I really enjoyed your insight into the point of view of this articles and how it being nonbiased helped you form your own individual opinion on the matter. I agree that racial profiling is a preconception notion that labels certain individuals as dangerous or unequal. This kind of ties into my article about Obama's speech on aiding the refugees and seeing them as equals. The difference of opinions between Trump and Obama are significant and really show two different ways of thinking.
