Kate Haidet: Eggo waffles recalled amid listeria fears

Summary: Around 10,000 cases of Eggo Nutri-Grain Whole Wheat waffles seem to be contaminated with the bacteria listeria. Listeria can cause serious infections in children and serious for anyone with a week immune system. The waffles in the recall were available in the 10-count packs with the “Best if used by” dates were of November 21, 2017. The company has asked all costumers to throw away those items bought, and is willing to refund the costumers.

Analysis: This article was posted on CNN and written by Sandee LaMotte and Susan Scutti. The article reminded me of other infections seen in food from other products. Earlier last year, Blue Bell Ice Cream was also infected by listeria. Hoping that the effect on Blue Bell would make other companies aware of the potential bacteria found sugar also frozen foods. This is eye opening for citizens as well as companies to be aware of what they are putting in the mouth/product.

  1. Seeing that another big name-brand food item is being taken off the shelves for health violations makes it seem like everything we put into our bodies is poison.

  2. This is so scary, especially considering we eat so much frozen food without considering the negative or life-endangering consequences and being so blindly trusting of corporation and what they create.

  3. I agree with Katie, this makes me re-think what I intake for breakfast or a late night snack. Also if it is good for my body. - Skyler Tepedino

  5. It's scary how a name brand company could let something like this happen. These are brands you're supposed to trust, but you don't think you trust them with your lives until something like this happens.

  7. This is so scary! It reminds me of when the restaurant "Noma" in Denmark served oysters that were contaminated with norovirus.

  8. Eggo Waffles is definitely going to go down in sales if this problem doesn't get fixed quickly. They need to go deep into the factory and observe the start of the problem.
