Summary:
Almost 10,000 cases of Eggo Nutri-grain whole wheat waffles have been called back in 25 states recently, due to their possible contamination of the bacteria listeria. Although nobody has reported of an illness due to these waffles, Eggo still voluntarily called them back due to routine tests that showed the possible contamination. Listeria is a bacteria that effects people with low immune systems, and gives symptoms such as fever, headache, and abdominal pain. Some infections can even cause death. This is not the first time that listeria has been found in Eggo products; in 2009, they found the same bacteria in Eggo buttermilk waffles.
Analysis:
I think that it was the best decision for the Eggo company to call back their products, even though there was only a possibility of this bacteria. Their company should check on their items more often, since this same situation has occurred in the past. More frequent inspections on all food products should happen in the world. There could be lots of bacteria harming us that the company has never caught before.
Synthesis:
This situation is similar to the 2009 callback of the Peanut Corporation of America products. There were around 8 deaths and over 500 reported illnesses. This was a much larger issue, due to how much product was bought and eaten by consumers.

I had never heard of this incident with Eggo. It's very good that they took it away and I agree with you, they should check more often, seems to be necessary.
ReplyDeleteSeeing how many food companies (chipotle, bluebell, etc) have made the mistake of waiting until it was too late to issue a warning or recall on their food, I think it was a great call on Eggo's part to take the safe route and recall their products before anyone is affected.
ReplyDeleteThere's has been many food recalls and it's outrageous. With companies genetically modifying food, there's no shock into it . I'm glad you wrote this because I like Eggo .
