"Back from its summer break, the U.S. Supreme
Court is hearing its first pair of cases on Monday—the beginning of what's
shaping up to be a controversial new term. On the docket for its
inaugural day are quirky statutory cases on wives who are
forced to pay for the debts of their husbands and the reach of
federal courts for accidents
that happen abroad. But it won't be long until things start to heat
up with cases that examine the future of affirmative
action at public universities, the livelihood of public-sector
unions, and whether the Constitution grants representation
to everyone or just to registered voters in state legislative
districts," opens Cristian Farais, Legal Affairs reporter for The Huffington Post.
It appears not only that the Court has up and coming cases that will soon test their morality and political views, but also reoccurring cases from the past they have previously put off or transported to lower federal courts. Especially in the past it has been clear that members of the court are more centered around Obama and the Democratic party, therefore upsetting conservatives (a good example being the Equal Rights Marriage law passed earlier this year). And with that said, it will be interesting to see how the remaining year turns out, seeing as the parties are a bit at blows (but then again, when aren't they nowadays?)
One could synthesize this to Andrew Jackson's Kitchen Cabinet and the fact that he was able to choose his advisors who were typically in favor of him/had his best interests in mind. Although this is speaking for the Supreme Court, much can be said of the same instance. Another example where the president and his political party views were closely tied to the judiciary branch is FDR's proposal to bring in more judges to serve for life.
