The article I read was about a very fresh and shocking event that occurred today, Friday November 13th. Throughout the French capital there were various bombings and shootings in different locations including in a soccer arena that was fully occupied at the time. What was predicted as a terrorist attack, led to at least 153 deaths so far and may injuries. These attacks were very unexpected and devastating to the country of France as a whole. The tactics and planning that seemed to be involved in as big of an attack as this resembled that of al Qaeda, although it's still unclear who was responsible. The citizens of France are now very unsettled and are being asked to stay in their homes due to the events of earlier this afternoon. Around the world people are gathering in mourning and have even started a "Pray for Paris" trend on social media. The news has traveled far and fast and people are uniting as communities for the country's losses.
This relates to U.S history in many obvious ways such as the attacks of 9/11 and other violent terrrorist occurrences. The most important thing that these events have in common is the sense of community and peace that comes afterwards from the thousands of people that are anxious to help. I personally heard about this event from snapchat, Instagram, and twitter before I even heard it on the news. The awareness raised by social media will pass along to thousands of other people to hopefully inspire peace and positive contributions towards Paris.

ReplyDeleteI saw on my Twitter feed cities all over the U.S. displaying the French flag or colors on their buildings. I think that this is so beautiful and I find it so important for the world to stand together like this in times of danger.
