In Paris, Some Mourners Worry About Backlash Against Muslims- Tori Gilchrist, 1st period

Following the tragic Paris attacks, countless impromptu memorials have been set up in the streets across the city. For many people, there is a concern that Muslim citizens of France will all be blamed for the shootings and bombings. A reporter spoke to two Muslim youth that were at a memorial. Both were college-aged students who expressed concern for their own safety and the safety of other Muslims in France. One pre-med student said she had passed by a group of mourners outside of Bataclan Concert Hall, where the worst attacks happened, who were calling Muslims terrorists.

As heart wrenching as the attacks were, it's important to be aware of the way we cope. After the 9/11 attack, many Americans turned very violent towards Muslims in general- they would be shot and killed in their workplaces or homes. The way America treats Muslims has never been the same since the attack on the twin towers, and I hope that the same doesn't happen in France.
