"Georgetown University to rename two buildings that reflect school’s ties to slavery" - Ari Robinson, 3rd Period

Summary:  Two buidings at Georgetown, a newly reopened dormitory named Mulledy Hall and a meditation center named McSherry Hall, are being renamed this week. William McSherry, president of the University in the 1830s, sold slaves to pay off debt incurred from buildings built on campus. Later, in 1938, Thomas F. Mulledy, the president and a Jesuit priest, was assisted by McSherry in the sale of 272 slaves, once again to pay off debts. These buildings have temporarily been renamed: "Freedom Hall" and "Remembrance Hall," respectively.

Analysis: With racial issues being brought up at schools across the country, it's no surprise these actions took place. This past week, students at Georgetown held a protest about the names, though actions could've been taken previously. Researches are tying slave labor and controversy into colleges all across the country.
