On saturday Belgiums capital was under the highest terror alert. With subways suspended, and people warned to stay inside, because of the imminent threat the week after the Paris attacks. The specifics for the level of alert are not released but security was hightened as new arrests from the Paris attacks occured, including one from Brussles. The increase in alert comes after a number of raids by authorities working to identify the network of terrorists behind the attack. The alert was raised to a 4, the countrys higest level. They were expecting an attack of the same caliber of the Paris attacks not long ago. On Sunday afternoon the threat level will be reevaluated. Many events were forced to be canceled including a top divison soccer game. While the alert goes on, people are advised to stay home, not to go to the capital, concerts, bars, airports, train stations, etc. Parading around Brussels are many security officers also on high alert.

This article by Ed Payne, CNN, makes me realize that the Paris attacks may not be over. It never crossed my mind that there would be more attacks, in other places as well. It makes me so sad to see people all around to be on such high alert, living with the fear that this could happen to them at any time. I had defnitely heard of the Paris attacks and I know what horror it caused, and I would hate to think that this could be something bigger. This article did a very good job of conveying the importance of the terror alert. The alert from the Paris attacks sound alot like the Haymarket Affair, the aftermath of a bombing at a labor demonstration. I think that right now we should all be on alert at least a little bit, and we should all send our prayers towards Paris and surrounding areas.
It's so awful that these terrorist attacks have a huge negative impact on other European countries.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I am scared that the Paris attackers will spread to other countries and that similar incidents will happen. I am scared that they will come to the U.S.
