The trailer for the sequel of "Zoolander" came out last week, and many people are already planning on boycotting the movie. Transgender rights activists have deemed this movie an “offensive representation of non-binary individuals.” In the commercial, Benedict Cumberbatch's character is shown, and he plays an over-the-top, mocking portrayal of a non-binary individual named "All." Along with many people being angry about the way this portrays the trans community, people are also offended by the fact that a cisgender actor was chosen to play this character, rather than a transgender actor. This is seen as the equivalent to blackface, as it is an offensive representation of a minority.
I believe that any offensive portrayal of a minority is wrong, and that the writers of this movie should have been more aware of how offensive this character really is. Just like blackface that was used during minstrel shows, this inaccurately displays the trans community. Now most people realize how horrible blackface is, I just hope it does not take society as long to realize how awful this mocking portrayal of trans individuals is.

I agree, it is never acceptable to be offensive to any people, minority or not. Offensive characters are done a lot in movies, but this kind of thing puts the trans community in a bad light, which isn't okay.
