AS WORLD MOURNS PARIS, MANY IN MID-EAST SEE DOUBLE STANDARD
by: Tristin Manus 8th
Summary: Within hours of last week's Paris attacks, as outrage and sympathy flooded his social media feeds and filled the airwaves, Baghdad resident Ali al-Makhzomy updated his Facebook cover photo to read "solidarity" — and his friends were shocked. "Everyone was like why are you posting about Paris and not about the attacks in Baghdad every day," the recent law school graduate said. "A lot of my friends said, 'OK, so you care more about them than you care about us?'" He had unintentionally brought up the frustration in Iraq, Lebanon and Syria and his result was the realization of the double standard. The world unites in outrage and sympathy when the Islamic State group kills Westerners, but pays little attention to the near-daily atrocities it carries out in the Middle East. The day before the Paris attacks, twin suicide bombers struck a southern Beirut suburb, killing at least 43 people, and on Friday a suicide bomber struck a funeral in Iraq, killing at least 21. Both attacks were claimed by the IS group and reported by major media outlets, but generated little interest outside the region, where the sad news has been a reoccurring near-daily event in that country. Lebanon however, has been peaceful the past year, making everyone to feel that last week's tragedy neglected by the media. Paris military has reacted to the bombings and decided to fight back, sending bombs into that area where the "think" ISIS is.
Analysis: The double standard is real in this world. TERORISM HAS NO RELIGION NOR RACE. You cannot blame a whole religion or race for the tragedies of the same percentage of that particular group have done. If you can differentiate between white Christians and the KKK, the you can differentiate between Muslims and ISIS. All I have heard on social media is PrayforParis and only Paris but they would ignore the fact that the middle-east countries endure these kind of tragedies DAILY. Yes, I know what happened in Paris was horrible but we need to put all of these countries on the same level because they are all equally terrible. I have barely seen the representation of the eastern countries in the media rather than western countries, which was in a number of hours everywhere rather than hearing about the mid-east tragedies 4 days later. Paris have counterattacked already which is terrible to be honest because the do not know the specific location of ISIS, so they choose to bomb innocent Muslims/mid-eastern people instead. Pray for Japan, Lebanon, Baghdad, Mexico and Paris, #prayfortheworld
