The devastating terrorist attacks Friday in Paris, lead by ISIS, killed upwards of 130 people, leaving dozens wounded as well. Due to these multiple suicide bombing and shootings across Paris, many airlines have chosen to withhold flights for a period of time, fearing for the safety of passengers. As a result of this, many French travelers have been stranded overseas. American citizens have stepped up, creating the hashtag #strandedinUS. US residents have been opening up homes all over the country to those stranded, unable to return home. This is extremely similar to flights that were grounded immediately after 9/11. One particular example is a French flight that was grounded in Gander, Newfoundland. The Newfoundlanders opened their homes, and now most people return to visit the families they stayed with.
Stranded in the US
9/11 story
The overwhelming support for France in this awful time is amazing, and I'm so grateful we have compassionate people here ready to open up their homes to the French people stranded here and provide them support
