US and Iran want nuclear deal; states interfere by, Harrison Epstein

Recently, the US and Iran have been coming closer to a nuclear deal. In the mean time, US states have taken some matters into their own hands. This could be damaging at the federal level, because, surprisingly, right? The US and Iran are not already that friendly. Although states typically do what the government does at a central level, this time, they aren't. They are in fact more strict about their foreign policies, especially with the Middle East. They have no intention of budging just because the federal government is trying to defrost their relationship with Iran. Even if there is federal legislation is passed, some states would have to change their policies, such as Illinois, in order for it to have any effect. Obama is trying to improve relations with a few countries in which there have been problems in the past. One of these nations in Cuba, and in the past week, Raul Castro and Obama have shaken hands, starting the long recovery process on a sixty year embargo and stalemate.

It seems that Obama is trying to symbolize his eight year legacy. He wants to be remembered as having improved US foreign policy. All facts considered, it seems that he has at least done a better job than the Bush administration. Although to be fair Obama didn't have to deal with as many problems. Bush had to deal with the 9/11 attacks and the war on terrorism. These talks with Iran about nuclear warfare is the US' problem, because it was us who first introduced it. Other past negotiations and warfare like this in the past include Korea, Vietnam, and Russia. The Cold War especially. The main point which keeps us tangled up in the Middle East is oil. The US should work harder at producing it domestically. I wish Obama good luck in his foreign relations. I hope the states back him in this.
