Rubio Announces Candidacy by, Harrison Epstein

Today, Senator Marci Rubio has announced that he will be running against Hillary Clinton for the democratic nomination. So far, his campaign seems to be founded on the idea that all people may prosper in America, because that is the core of our country. His evidence from this comes from the fact that his father was a Cuban immigrant. He has said that though his winning may seem improbable, he lives "in an exceptional country, where even the son of a bartender and a maid can have the same dreams and the same future as those who come from power and privilege." Rubio is youthful and stands on the idea of looking into the future, not dwelling on the past.

Not getting into whether or not I agree with him or will vote this way, I think it's amazing how the demographics of politics are slowly changing. With every election that goes by, there are more and more candidates who don't look like the many white, old men that have been presidents before. In 2008, Obama broke the glass ceiling of the first African American president. If he wins, Rubio could break one as well. As could Hillary. Actually, it's all rather exciting no matter which way you slice it. The United States have come a long way from our first Catholic president, John F. Kennedy. The Republican Party will have to step up their game if they want to compete with the diversity that the Democrats are relying on for this 2016 election.
