Outbreak Sickens 100 on Cruise - Corsica Steding

The Centers for Disease Control (the CDC) determined last Monday that an outbreak that has affected 112 people on a cruise ship was caused by a norovirus. Those affected have suffered vomiting, diarrhea and other symptoms.  Of those affected, 6 were crew members of the Celebrity Infinity.  The cruise line's response to the outbreak has included increased cleaning and disinfection procedures as well as keeping passengers informed. This is the third time that this particular cruise ship, the Celebrity Infinity, has had an outbreak of gastrointestinal illness.  Two CDC staffers boarded the West Coast-based ship today in San Diego to try and resolve the issue.

Todd Leopold wrote this article for CNN on April 13th.  Before reading this article, I had heard of one of the cruise line's previous outbreaks.  It's highly concerning that this particular cruise line has had so much trouble with gastrointestinal illnesses.  Considering that other cruise lines aren't having these issues, it reflects poorly on this particular cruise line.  Outbreaks are very common in settings like these where everyone is living in such close quarters; however, that doesn't mean that something shouldn't be done to prevent this from happening again.
