Obama and Castro's Historic Handshake - Lindsey Galvan p.4

On April 10, 2015, President Barack Obama and Cuban President Raul Castro exchanged greetings and handshakes at the opening of the Summit of the Americas in Panama. This was the first discussion between leaders of the two nations since 1956. The handshake was the latest of a series of clear steps in the past few days signaling the two countries are continuing on their path toward normalizing relations, including opening embassies in both nations. The discussion was not formal, but there is a scheduled meeting between them on the 11th of April, Deputy National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes said Friday.

This relates to apush because the us and Cuba have a long history of bad tension. Occasions such as the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Bay of Pigs incident are just some of the things that have sparked this tension. Its very surprising to see Obama making a historic step toward defrosting five decades of icy relations between the two countries.
