Jurors begin to deliberate over a crime perpetrated in 1979 By: Nina Bharadwaj, 2nd

In 1979, six-year-old boy, Etan Patz, went missing. Over 35 years later, Jurors have finally begun to deliberate in trial over the man who has been accused of this murder. Pedro Hernandez, the accused, confessed in 2012 that he enticed the boy with soda, led him to a basement, and then choked him. Then Hernandez divulged that he placed the body in a bag and took it two blocks away from the scene of the crime. The body was never uncovered. Despite the prosecutors stating that this revelation is logical, Hernandez's attorneys claim that he lied about this admission, for he is not mentally stable. Within 10 weeks, jurors heard from Hernandez's ex-wife and his former neighbor that Hernandez also confessed to them.
The length of time that it took for any progress regarding this case is shocking. After the 9/11 attacks, an investigation was launched to find the perpetrator. About a decade from the date of the attacks, American forces located Osama bin Laden's compound and killed him. However, 35 years for any confession to be made about the Etan Patz case is utterly absurd. One can only hope that this man isn't mentally unstable and actually was the criminal because then this case can be closed, and justice can be served.
