The Postal Service employs over 600,000 workers; it has not been stated how many people were affected in the recent breach. Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe said in a statement: "It is an unfortunate fact of life these days that every organization connected to the internet is a constant target for cyber intrusion activity."
The FBI is currently investigating the attack. The lead suspects include groups connected to the Chinese government, who have been accused of hacking other US companies.
With the prevalence of the Internet, cyber theft and espionage has become a serious issue, and a major threat on our personal privacy. The Fourth Amendment secures an individual's right to privacy, but the idea of privacy seems almost nonexistent today. After what Snowden exposed about our government's role in our private conversations, how can we really trust our information with any entity? Perhaps we need to redefine what privacy is, and how it needs to be protected in the 21st century.
This is why we need to be careful about how much we share online. These hackers seem to be getting more and more intelligent in ways to steal our personal info.
ReplyDeleteIts very true that what privacy is not what it used to be. People can access entire lives on the internet. In our jobs everything is put on a database online. I hope this will have an impact on people and prevent them from posting too much.
ReplyDeleteThe ability that cyber hackers have is unimaginable. Once they are able to get into one major system, they have the keys to access almost anything they want. To think that all aspects of our lives are controlled mostly by electronics and the internet, hackers could easily destroy everything that is reality to us.
ReplyDeleteI agree that privacy isn't what it use to be and I think because of the shift some of our laws need to shift with it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jack. We definitely need to be more careful with our private and personal information. People need to be more careful with what they share online.
