Passport Place Of Birth Issue Goes to Supreme Court - Hannah Kalan 6th Period

As of late, a 12 year old boy's passport has caused issues that have risen to the necessity of the Supreme Court. The boy and his family wish to have the passport list his birthplace as Jerusalem, Israel, however the State Department will not allow it. This is due to the governments current policy of neutrality. If it were to allow this slight change to the boys passport, then it may also in doing so acknowledge Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and not Pakistan, therefore breaking the policy. The justices are still deciding on the issue, and a decision is due by spring of 2015.

I personally think it's astounding how a single word, a single place on someone's passport can make all the difference. However it will be interesting to see what the justices decide in the spring, and hopefully it'll be settled in a way that makes everyone happy, although seemingly impossible, especially with the rising tensions in that area now.
