Manhattan Clinic Makes Major Mistakes in Case of Joan Rivers - Hannah Kalan 6th Period

Regarding the Manhattan Clinic that treated 81 year old entertainer Joan Rivers, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services have written a report that has listed several serious mistakes made by the clinic. According to the report, it failed to: identify deteriorating vitals, record her weight which is necessary  to administer the proper amount of sedative, consistently record the amount of sedative given, get the patient's informed consent for the performed procedures, and the report also found that there was a photograph taken of the patient while she was sedated, violating yet another policy. Rivers died September 4, a week after visiting the clinic, from which she had to be rushed to a hospital by paramedics, and it was that last week of her life that she spent on life support.

It really saddens and angers me to see that some people can manage to somehow do something like that, and to cost someone their life. The one thing that really got me was that they didn't record her weight beforehand, because as mundane as that seems and even unnecessary sometimes, if you're going to sedate someone you need to at the very least know how much of the sedative to give them as not to harm them during the procedure. And, hopefully River's daughter will be able to get some peace, knowing why her mother died, and hopefully the clinic will be able to get it's act together.
