Hawaii Lava Flow Destroys First Home - Corsica Steding

Lava from Hawaii's Kilauea volcano destroyed its first home today in Pahoa village.  Officials stated that the owners had cleared out with their belongings a while back.  At the moment, there are no other homes in near proximity that could be in danger any time soon.  There was nothing that the residents could've done, even though the lava had been flowing since June 27th. The Kilauea volcano has been active since 1983.

Susanna Capelouto wrote this article on November 10th for CNN.  Before reading this article, I had heard that the lava flow of this particular volcano could possibly be a danger to homes but I hadn't heard of any updates on it.  This article was written for anyone who had heard about the event and to spread the fact that the lava had destroyed its first residence.  It must be terrible for the homeowners who know that their home could potentially be destroyed, but who have to wait such a long amount of time for the lava to take its course.
