Margot Tortolani

Philanthropic Janitor

Alvin Randlett was a janitor who was beloved by many. He passed away recently,  but his death came with a gift. He donated his life savings back to the community. Randlett would take his personal days to chaperone the kids from his school on field trips. Randlett died of melanoma in 2015, but his legacy lives on. He donated his life savings to the Kentucky Child Victim’s Tryst Fund. Fund officials were inundated with tears as they were notified of Randlett’s $175,217.19 donation. The fund has programs helping to inform Kentuckians how to identify report child abuse and it provides communities with preventative resources as well as paying for the cost of child sexual abuse medical exams.

Randlett has left a positive influence on the world. These donations are similar to Andrew Carnegie and his philanthropic donations to help those in need. In the Gospel of Wealth, it is described how the more fortunate should help those who need.

  2. I like your synthesis, and this is so sweet that he even though he passed, he's contributing to his community and setting a good example to follow.

This makes me happy. the fact that more people are making an impact on our society even after they have passed away brings light to the world.
