Pope Francis open to women deacons - Kate Fehan 8th Period

Pope Francis said that he supports looking into the possibility of women becoming deacons in the Roman Catholic church. Currently, women are not allowed to serve in ordained ministry and in the past, a woman's voice in the church has been very limited. Pope Francis's less traditional views, like this one, have been upsetting the more conservative members of the church. This could be an important turning point in the church and could have a great effect on religious politics, just like the rise of conservatism swung the election of 1980. Even though separation of church and state is in the Constitution in the US, religion still plays a major role in politics everywhere, especially today in the Republican party.

  3. I think it is good for the Roman Catholic Church to finally start accepting women. They are kind of set off from the other religions because they don't let women lead. -Mattie Whisler 9th period Flex

  4. I think that this is such a powerful move for the pope to make because i just shows how much the pope really follows the message of god by accepting everyone and giving a fair chance to women like never before.
