This article talks about the "cost" of Trump's "bumper sticker presidency" saying that the short phrases he uses to talk about his policy hide the bad sides of them. It then goes on to talk about a few examples and closes with the statement of "the government has a different role- to make people's lives better"
This article was written during a time where people are becoming increasingly polarized. This was written to people who oppose Trump to feed their hunger for anti-Trump arguments. It was article was written by Zachary B. Wolf, and his bias is incredibly obvious throughout the article. This is important because the way the president communicates with the public is very important to a democratic society.
I think this perspective is interesting. I have read before about the use of short phrases and words like "us" and "we" in Trumps campaign as a way of connecting to all citizens and making it sound as though his presidency will unite us. I think that the reason Trump does this is to leave an impression on the listener and like you said "hide" the side he would like for the listener to ignore. Many of Trumps techniques are simple, but can be very effective.

The bumper sticker analogy is pretty clever, as many "inspirational" quotes have many holes in them.
ReplyDeleteI agree, the sticker could be interpreted in many different ways.
