Alexander McNab, Columbian University student was hungry one Thursday night and had just came from dance practice he was trying to get some free food. On his way he hd an encounter with the police and it included a disagreement about his student id that led to the officers pinning his to a countertop. McNab said that the officers had probably assumed that they had stopped him because he was black but they so called stopped him because he seemed to be homeless. The police had demanded to see his id and the officers had pinned him on his back.
This is so crazy that the police are still harassing people that are not even doing anything and are not bothering anyone. The police are trying to make it seem that they are superior to others and especially African Americans and that is not ok because they are taking advantage of their authority and its not right. this connects to how the police used to treat the African American during the civil rights movement era and this treatment was also not ok. This shows that nothing has really changed from then and now.
It can be very scary and questioning when police officers just assume bad things are happening and take action on situations where it is not needed. Police should be more focused on bigger issues and real crime that is happening throughout America. Why do you think these suspensions are brought up? - Paige McManaman
ReplyDeleteI believe that the police used unnecessary force with Alexander. He never touched them and even if he didn't obey the first time when he was asked for ID, why did it have to go that far? Also, The fact that the students around him didn't seem to have a problem with Alexander (didn't seem threatened) should have gave police the clue that he was also a student.
ReplyDeleteRacial profiling really needs to stop, I am tired of hearing stories about black young adults being beaten by POLICE OFFICERS the people we are supposed to call if somebody is beating us. - kloe rhoden
ReplyDeleteVery well written article, and this far from being okay, it is just not right.
