Its almost comforting that no matter what changes in our world, we can count on drunk men doing dumb and often bigoted stuff. No matter what, we can depend on humans being awful to each. Case in point: this guy, who at the moment remains unidentified. He came up to a group and while one member filmed, he asked another one if he was gay. When he answered in the affirmative, he used a slur and punched the man he questioned.
This story, however unsurprising is still awful. I'm glad the video was taken so that hopefully there will be some justice for the man and his friends who had to suffer the attack and insults. Even though things like this have happened all throughout history and will likely continue for just as long, at least the response has changed. A hundred years ago, although minorities were receiving massive increase in rights, it came with outbursts of violence. The great migration resulted in race riots. The KKK began regaining power and influence and once again took up lynchings and other violent scare tactics. Violence against minorities was present a hundred years ago just as it is today. However, back then, these stories were rarely picked up by the press and perpetrators received consequences even less. However, at least now people care enough to have allowed this story to gain momentum.
