Pledge of allegiance by Kennedy Morrison

An 11 year old boy is faced with charges and was arrested for not standing for the pledge of allegiance. His substitute teacher was telling him to stand but he refused and said that the flag was “racist” and the teacher told him to leave the country if he thought the flag was racist and he replied with “they forced me to be here”. So the substitute couldn’t deal with him anymore so she called the district officers to take him and he was arrested for not standing for the pledge and for threatening a teacher.
I thought this was very wrong of them to do to an 11 year old boy. He can have his own opinions if he pleases to he shouldn’t be arrested for his own opinion. If he doesn’t want to stand for the pledge then let him be don’t try to force it into him  and make him do something he’s not comfortable with.

  1. I agree. Not only is arresting him a suppression of his free speech but he's eleven. Short of murder, an eleven year old should not be arrested.

  2. I thought being arrested for exercising the 1st amendment was in the past. It is sad that this poor 11 year old boy has to go through something this petty.

    1. I agree with you, but I do believe there should have been a much much smaller repercussion for talking back to a teacher in such a manner. Like maybe writing an apology note at most.

  3. Exactly! What happened to the right of peaceful protest or freedom of speech!

  4. That isn't something to get arrested for. An 11 year old shouldn't get arrested maybe he needs to talk to someone and find a better solution but jail is not the answer.

    1. I agree the punishment was much too severe, especially for a child so young
