Summary:
The drug raid that took place earlier in January in Houston had ended with a gun fight between two suspects and a group of officers. Among these officers was Gerald Goines, who is now revealed to have obtained the search warrant by using an unnamed confidential informant to reveal that drugs were being sold. However, these informants are now denying that they had any help towards this particular warrant. Due to this criminal violation, both from the suspects and the officer, Goines will be fired as soon as he is released from the hospital.
Analysis:
This article was published on February 19, 2019 by CNN and had been updated throughout that day. I had quite a bit of prior knowledge to this subject considering a previous blog i published with this exact drug raid being the topic. My opinion still remains the same with both sides in the situation being in the wrong, with many other ways it could have been handled rather than violence. However, with this new information released that the warrant had been untruthful really shocks me. If an officer has to raid someones house for some sort of investigation, it at least has to be valid. In any other situation, the suspects could have just been innocent civilians with no reason to be arrested for a false accusation of selling heroin.
I think often times people immediately resort to violence and especially in this people should think and find a more peaceful approach -kloe rhoden
ReplyDeleteThe fact that a police officer, someone who is supposed to uphold the law, broke it to serve himself is disheartening. Even if he had good intentions, he went above the law and that shouldn't be commended, so I'm glad he is facing a punishment for it.
