Summary:
A Canadian teen, Jacob Bredenhof, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in June and after several scans the doctors found cancer in his femur causing him to have to use a wheelchair. In October surgeons removed a part of his leg in a rotationplasty procedure were the leg was rotated 180 degrees and was attached to the remaining thigh bone and uses the ankle was a knee point. Physical therapy will help Bredenhof use his foot and ankle as a knee.
Analysis:
The article was written by Alexandria Hein published about an hour ago. They author has followed the boys medical history to the T to be able to present what was going on with him and why it would be better to reattach his foot backwards. This reminds me of the discovery of penicillin in 1928 which helped reduce the number of deaths and amputations during World War ll. We continue to branch out and discover new methods and procedures to save lives like Bredenhof. The seems to remain unbiased but leaves links to other strange body replacements with people who have cancer. The article is rather positive showing people surviving cancer with "strange" procedures. I think it is important to recognize that no matter how strange the procedure if there is a legal way to save a child, teenager, adult... etc, we should.
