A man named Jussie Smollett was upset by his salary and felt the need for attention from the public He thought the best way to get this publicity was to stage a fake assault on himself a week after writing himself a threatening letter. The Chicago police said Thursday after the “Empire” actor surrendered to face a charge of filing a false police report. Jussie Smollett had taken advantage of the pain and anger of racism. This crime was so dangerous because the police wasted resources that could have been used to investigate other crimes for which people were actually suffering. The police say the staged assault was carried out by two brothers to whom the actor had paid $3,500. Mr. Smollett claimed that at 2 am, two masked men attacked him on the 300 block of East Lower North Water Street in downtown Chicago. He said they yelled homophobic and racial slurs at him, put a rope around his neck and poured a chemical substance on him. The sad thing is is that such a horrific thought of this happening spread quickly, to find out that it was staged. Mr. Smollett was charged on Wednesday.

This story relates to one that is extremely similar that took place in 2012. A man staged an assault in his company at work. Not many details were released, however it was very similar when it came to the police involvement. The police spend their time investigating, looking through cameras, talking to potential victims, all which takes away from cases that need real attention. It is upsetting that people that needed things like that might not have gotten it soon enough because of a staged assault.
