Trump responds to Spike Lee's acceptance speech - Faith Wangermann
In an article published by the New York Times on February 25, 2019, Alex Marshall writes about Spike Lee's acceptance speech that encouraged listeners to make the right choice in the 2020 election, and Trump's response. When Lee won the Oscar for best adapted screenplay for his movie BlacKkKlansman, he said in his speech "The 2020 presidential election is around the corner ... Let’s all mobilize. Let’s all be on the right side of history. Make the moral choice between love versus hate.” Trump responded on twitter by saying "Be nice if Spike Lee could read his notes, or better yet not have to use notes at all, when doing his racist hit on your President." Spike Lee has yet to respond, and he is not expected to as his publicist as said he won't. This is an example of an artistic celebrity having influence over their audience, a phenomenon which began to occur in the 1920s.
