Exxon has made many big moves this year, but perhaps the biggest move is the use of Microsoft's cloud technology. They're using this technology in order to capitalize on America's fast-moving shale oil boom. Exxon will use the Azure cloud platform to collect oilfield data, make faster drilling decisions, prioritize personnel deployments, detect leaks, and monitor greenhouse gas emissions. Exxon Mobile currently covers 9.5 billion barrels of oil and natural gas across 1.6 million acres. Exxon executive Staale Gjervik said in a brief statement, "The shale business is fast moving, complex and data rich, which makes it well suited for the application of digital technologies to strengthen our operations and help deliver greater value. By partnering with Microsoft, Exxon is expected to generates billions of dollars over the next decade and boost its oil production by as much as 50,000 barrels per day by 2025.
