Although a stereotype, it is, in fact, true that Australia has many scary animals. including spiders. On January 2nd of 2019, a man was found screaming "Why don't you die?" inside his home. A passerby heard this, however, did not call the police until he heard a child crying in the house as well. When many policemen arrived at the scene, the man had to explain to them that he was deathly afraid of spiders and that he and his son were screaming at it.
Although not a very newsworthy article, I think that it is important to notice how intense this man's fear for spiders is. Often times, people overlook arachniphobia because in a lot of cases, the fear is explained by disgust, or the spider isn't dangerous. Although it is unknown if the spider was dangerous in this case, we know that this man was scared enough to scream so loud someone outside could hear. It is important that we take phobias seriously enough to want to help those who are struggling with them.

This is a bizarre and unique situation, but I'm glad that someone had the presence of mind to call the cops, even if it was a false alarm.
