A military draft that applies only to men is unconstitutional, a federal judge in Houston has ruled. He said that excluding women can't be justified due to the fact that they can now serve in combat. The National Coalition for Men, a men’s rights group, brought about the suit the argument being that only drafting men goes against the 14th amendment’s equal-protection clause. The ruling was declaratory, and it did not say the government had to take an action.
This a valid argument in the case of equal opportunity in the military. It further goes to show that gender inequality is still present today. Not just inequality against women but men too. Taking into account that if men don't comply with the draft they could face serious consequences and that according to the constitution every citizen must comply with the draft, it clearly seems there is a case for violation of equal rights. Another example of this is when women first entered the industrial work force.
