Keyanna Smith "Supreme Court stopping Trump's National Emergency?"

https://www.cnn.com/2019/02/15/politics/national-emergency-supreme-court/index.html

Trump is clearly aware of his national emergency having facing legal challenges but he continues to go with it and claims that it will continue to get bad rulings and hopefully the Supreme Court can have a fair shake. His frustration is coming from all the number of times to Supreme Court has blocked the white house policies. This is testing the law in which the president can declare a national emergency.

This connects to how in the government there is checks and balances so depending on what the president is trying to do, which according to this is a lot to do ,the supreme court can tell him no so that everything is kept fair. However the president thinks that this is unfair because the supreme court is always against the things but that's how it is so that's how it has to go.

  1. I think that the Supreme Court opposing his decision is what keeps him from having all the power

  2. Unfortunately Congress kept giving the president more and more power ruining the whole Idea of checks and balances, in this case it was in the National Emergencies act that Congress gave up some control over spending.

  3. I honestly have mixed emotions on if the system of checks and balances is working because what it was ultimately supposed to stop it didn’t like the shutdown.

  4. I like how you connected it to how the government has the checks and balances thing.
