At 88, geologist and climatologist Wallace Smith Broker, who is considered the author of the term “global warming,” died, the Associated Press reported, citing a representative of Columbia University, where the scientist worked.

Wallace Broker was born in November 1931 in Chicago, Illinois. After graduating from Columbia University, he decided to continue teaching at the Department of Geology and the Environment.
During his career, he wrote 14 books and more than 500 scientific articles. In one of the articles, which was published in the journal Science in 1975, the Broker first used the term "global warming". In this article, he described the possible effects of human exposure on climate.
