Daniela Rodriguez - Explainer: Denver teachers strike challenges landmark incentive pay scheme

The Denver Classroom Teachers Association went on strike due to an unfair payment system. For the past years, the Denver public school system has used an incentive-based wage system that worked for a few years, but now is becoming detrimental to the teachers. In a city where the cost of living has increased over the past decade and teacher wages have plummeted, the union calls for change, with a work stoppage.

Labor unions began in the late 1800s and were created for the safety of the workers monetarily. This can be seen put to use today through this teachers' strike and helps exercise American rights to free speech.
